Thoughts on rap

I'm usually fanatically patriotic, but why is U.S. rap so much crappier than foreign rap? It's like you have to sound awful in order to have "street cred." Foreign rappers apparently aren't burdened with idiotic "street cred" expectations. Consequently, they make much more enjoyable recordings.
